Japanese street food meets refined dining!
Introducing Yatai Ramenbar - Where the vibrant essence of Japanese street food meets refined dining, blending simplicity and complexity in perfect harmony.
Located below Nikkei on Cape Town’s trendy Bree Street, Yatai Ramenbar takes inspiration from traditional Japanese food stalls known as Yatais while offering a sophisticated and modern dining experience. Behind the menu are renowned chefs Rikku O'Donnchu and Warwick King, previously of Gate and Exhibit A, who have joined forces again to bring a fine dining ramen concept to life with a theatrical twist.
Yatai, which translates to 'street vendor' in Japanese, offers dishes crafted with high-quality ingredients, where every element is elevated to new heights. From the 72-hour Tonkatsu broth bursting with umami, to shio broth enriched with aged shoyu, each recipe embraces authenticity while offering a modern touch. The ramen noodles are traditionally stretched using an authentic noodle stretcher from Japan, adding to the artisanal quality of each bowl. The style of ramen broth on offer will be a modern take on “Kotteri” which means creamy and rich. The menu doesn’t stop at ramen; it also boasts a luxurious wagyu katsu sando, a selection of dumplings, robata-grilled dishes, seafood and specialty desserts—all perfectly paired with Japanese-inspired cocktails, sake and Japanese whisky.
Yatai - Ramenbar’s minimalist yet inviting interior design, curated by the talented team at SQ Design, offers the perfect atmosphere for guests to enjoy their culinary journey.

We’re diving deep into sake—from classic Junmai to sparkling sake, our rotating list invites you to explore the many faces of Japan’s national drink. Sake, also known as 'nihonshu,' is a traditional Japanese alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice. It has been enjoyed in Japan for centuries and is an integral part of the country's culture and cuisine.
Junmai sake is pure rice sake, made without any added alcohol or sugar, showcasing a rich and full-bodied flavour that pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. On the other hand, sparkling sake offers a delightful twist with its effervescent bubbles and refreshing taste, making it perfect for celebrations or as an aperitif.
At Yatai Ramen Bar, we are passionate about sake and are excited to bring you a diverse selection to enhance your dining experience. Whether you are a seasoned sake enthusiast or a curious newcomer, our curated list is designed to delight and surprise your palate.
Our entire sake range is sold in either 175ml carafe, 750ml carafe or the whole 750ml bottle. We offer a range of sake-based cocktails to try as well.
