Soi 55 Thai Eatery is making waves – and proudly celebrating a string of recent accolades! The popular Ballito eatery was recently named Best Asian Restaurant in the Ballito Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, recognised on Eat Out’s Neighbourhood Gems 2026 list, and included by Nick Hamman (Mr DD) among his Best Places to Eat in South Africa.
Bringing an Authentic Thai Experience! to the KZN North Coast, Soi 55 is a modern Thai eatery embracing the vibrant street food culture of Thailand. Owned by life and business partners Goo and Sheri, the restaurant is the realisation of a shared passion for Thai culture, cuisine and hospitality.
Born and raised in Bangkok, owner and head chef Goo Imthawin grew up surrounded by the sights, sounds and aromas of Thailand’s street food culture. With family roots in Kalasin in northeastern Thailand, his cooking is deeply influenced by the bold and distinctive flavours of Isaan cuisine.
Today, Soi 55 brings that heritage to life in a stylish, contemporary setting at one of Ballito’s popular Lifestyle Centre – offering diners an authentic taste of Thailand and a dining experience that is clearly getting noticed.
