A Quick Q&A with Chef Michelle Theron!

For the past four years Chef Michélle Theron has led the stellar brigade at Hazendal Wine Estate.

Following the completion of her chef’s qualification in Stellenbosch, Michélle gained  experience at leading restaurants abroad and in the Cape winelands. She enjoys harnessing the celebration of storytelling and believes that sharing memories over a meal is the golden thread flowing through Hazendal's culinary experiences.

From fine dining, deli-style eating, tapas, picnics, private functions and children’s offerings, Hazendal’s culinary portfolio, along with its impressive wines, caters to a broad range of taste preferences and occasions.

Did you love cooking from a young age?
I did – my passion for cooking started at an early age, around the family’s kitchen table. Our kitchen was always the centre of family gatherings, and looking around the smiling, happy faces, all enjoying themselves, I realised that food really connects and charms people – so I decided that’s what I wanted to do for a living.

How would you describe your food philosophy for Hazendal?
It’s simple – good quality produce and prepared with love. Seasonal, sustainable, and celebrating inspirations from South African and Russian heritage.

What does food mean to you?
Food is a culture, not only something to sustain life but also a way to tell stories, share experiences and forge friendships.

Ever wanted to learn how to play golf? This Women’s Month Hazendal is offering golf clinics for women, led by our in-house golf professional. These fun clinics are tailored for both complete novices, as well as those looking to improve their game. Golfers can look forward to a fun morning of expert coaching and new experiences on our state-of-the-art driving range.

Clinics are offered every Saturday in August and run from 10h00-11h00.

With both indoor and al fresco seating the Babushka Deli is ideal for a coffee date, or book ahead for the elegant winter lunches served in The Glasshouse. For a touch of classical charm, the Hazendal Tea Ceremony, served in the gorgeous Tea Room, promises a feast of sweet and savoury treats.

SENSORY SIPS

Delve into the wine’s crafted by Hazendal’s talented cellarmaster, Clarise  Langeveldt, with our unique Sensory Experience. Hosted in our exclusive underground Wine Library, this bespoke experience begins with a guided tour of the cellar to discover the rich history and evolution of the estate and it’s vineyards. Thereafter, step into the Wine Library where skilled wine ambassadors will guide you through an extensive tasting of Hazendal’s current releases, with each wine expertly paired with a flavour-packed micro-plate served.

The Sensory Experience (R680pp) is offered daily (Tues-Sun) at 12h30.
