Benguela Cove Wine launches Click & Collect
10 June 2020
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate has launched a Click & Collect service to meet a major surge in demand following the lifting of the ban on the sale of alcohol. Details for placing an order are online.
At no extra charge, the estate’s customers can pick up their wines at collection points in Cape Town, at Bellville, and from the vineyard at Benguela Cove, near Hermanus. Alternatively, customers can opt for home delivery. They can also enjoy free online wine tasting webinars that the vineyard has just introduced, guided by cellar master Johann Fourie.
Penny Streeter OBE, Managing Director of Benguela Cove, wines says:
“There has been massive demand for our wines and we are grateful for the support of our loyal customers. The ban on alcohol sales during the COVID lockdown since April 26th will have had a major impact on the finances of South African vineyards, but we are in good shape at Benguela Cove, mainly because the UK is our major export market, where wine sales are allowed all through their lockdown.
“Click & Collect helps us to meet customer demand fast, and with no delivery charges to pass on. We now look forward to the Government further lifting the lockdown, so visitors can enjoy the estate’s hospitality and entertainments; we will be ready with safe social distancing measures and other protection.”
Wines of South Africa previously released an estimate that a five-week ban on exports could result in a direct export revenue loss of over R1 billion.
With its location on a lagoon at the edge of the Atlantic ocean, entrepreneur Penny Streeter created Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate as a visitor destination on the Hermanus Wine Route in the Walker Bay region, when she acquired the struggling vineyard in 2013.
The climatic conditions offer a special terroir to produce wines of distinction, says Johann Fourie. The south-easterly sea breeze is chilled by the Benguela Current flowing up from Antarctica, to cool the grapes at night after warm summer days, irrigated by above-average rainfall, for slow ripening and good viniculture.
Popular mixed case wine offers available through Click & Collect include, at R520, a six-bottle pack of Lighthouse Syrah 2018, Sauvignon Blanc 2019, two bottles of Rosé 2019, Moody Lagoon 2018 and Cuvee58 Méthode Cap Classique.
