Amazing food options served in astonishing scenery ...
Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning “situated far away”), has been under the ownership of some of the world’s great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate.
Vergelegen Estate offers three very different dining experiences, but each has a relentless focus on quality, consistency, and hospitality.
Stables at Vergelegen
Enjoy a relaxed dining experience at the Stables at Vergelegen. Classic, with a modern twist, the ‘bistro’ style restaurant offers a varied, contemporary menu of simple, but visually delectable dishes for a warm and family-friendly dining experience.
Whilst sipping on award-winning wines, enjoy breath-taking views of the Hottentots Holland mountain range and soak up the creative juices of the varied and eclectic local artists whose artworks adorn the walls.
Should you wish to host your corporate dinner, birthday, anniversary, or wedding reception celebration at Stables restaurant, please enquire for our functions brochure.

Rose Terrace Tea Room at Vergelegen
The Rose Terrace Tea Room is located beside a glorious rose garden, where hundreds of fragrant rose bushes create a serene, scented atmosphere. Satisfy sweet cravings with an ever-changing range of cakes, from traditional favourites to one-of-a-kind creations. The menu also includes delicious savouries such as pies and quiches. The Rose Terrace is the perfect choice for a relaxed gathering of friends, or a soothing solo retreat. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, no bookings.
We also cater for intimate functions at Rose Terrace Tea Room. For more information email functions@vergelegen.co.za.
Picnic at Vergelegen
Vergelegen’s mystic camphor forest is the setting for a luxury, “white tablecloth” picnic. It offers an opportunity for both intimate as well as family and friend gatherings in a beautifully shaded and tranquil camphor forest, descendants of the original camphor trees, planted by Van der Stel in the 1700’s.
The word picnic consists of ‘pic’ meaning to pick at food, and ‘nic’ referring to something small. So, we have given you a superb selection of small things to pick at to please the palate and the senses.
Operating Hours: Open Mondays to Sundays; 12h15-13h30 for collection of picnic baskets (Nov-Apr) | Closes at 16h30

We are delighted to have Richard Cock back at Vergelegen to present this entertaining and anecdote-filled talk on conductors. Richard has been a friend of Vergelegen for many years, and is well known not only for his conducting prowess but also having been the host of Starlight Classics at the estate for the past 2 decades.
According to Richard, “Orchestral conductors work by an amalgam of psychology, magic and a storehouse of knowledge about music, people and how to get the best out of a collection of highly trained, highly individualistic, and highly strung people, all thrown together in a powder-keg that is the orchestra!”.
In his entertaining talk, Richard explores the world of the orchestral conductor, the good, the bad and the ugly, and debunks a few myths along the way. This hour of fun and laughter will provide fascinating insights about the mystical art of conducting. It is not a talk for the faint hearted – probably best ADULTS ONLY!
Guests will meet for a glass of wine on arrival, followed by the hour-long talk in our cozy library (surrounded by 4500 books) and conclude with a wintry 2-course meal at Stables Restaurant alongside the roaring fireplaces. We are determined not to let the winter weather get us down!

Time: 18h00
