Platter’s Enters a New Era with Leadership Transition and Editorial Change
30 April 2026
Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide has announced the end of an era, with Philip van Zyl stepping down after an influential 28-year tenure as Editor.
Platter’s extended its sincere gratitude to Philip van Zyl, who, alongside his wife Cathy van Zyl (Associate Editor), has played a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity, credibility, and consistency of the Guide. Together, their stewardship has significantly strengthened Platter’s reputation as South Africa’s most comprehensive and authoritative wine guide.
As the Guide enters a new chapter, Bubbles Hyland has been appointed General Manager and will lead the next phase of Platter’s evolution.
Hyland brings extensive expertise spanning wine brands, commercial strategy, communications, and marketing, combining respected industry insight with a contemporary understanding of the evolving wine landscape.
As founder of Well Red Co and curator of Well Red Wine Magazine, she has built a reputation for connecting producers, trade, and media through strategic storytelling and thoughtful industry engagement. Her vision is to build on Platter’s established legacy while ensuring its continued relevance for a new generation of wine consumers.
“As a long-time collector of Platter’s and a follower of the Guide, it is a privilege to step into this role and become part of something that has shaped the way South African wine is experienced,” said Hyland.
The appointment of a new Editor will be announced in due course.
