Cape Town audiences are invited to experience one of the greatest detective stories ever written as Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd comes to Theatre On The Bay for a thrilling limited season from 16 July to 16 August 2026.

Widely regarded as one of the most ingenious mystery novels of all time, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was first published in 1926, making this year its 100th anniversary. For a century, it has captivated readers with its unforgettable twists, razor-sharp dialogue and brilliant plotting. Now, this celebrated story, presented by Pieter Toerien, comes vividly to life on stage, promising an evening of suspense, intrigue and unexpected revelations.

Alan Committie returns as the meticulous Hercule Poirot, joined by an outstanding South African cast including Graham Hopkins as Dr James Sheppard, Dianne Simpson as Caroline Sheppard, Dean Goldblum as Ralph Paton, Sharon Spiegel Wagner as Helen Russell, Brett Krüger as Parker, Sarah Wolhuter as Ursula Bourne, Mary-Anne Wright as Flora Ackroyd, Louise Saint Claire as Gertrude Ackroyd, Michael Richard as Major Hector Blunt, Mike Huff as Roger Ackroyd, and Russel Savadier as Inspector Raglan.

When the wealthy Roger Ackroyd is found murdered in his study shortly after the mysterious death of his fiancée, suspicion falls on everyone in the quiet English village of King's Abbot. As secrets unravel and motives emerge, the legendary Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is drawn out of retirement to investigate. With every clue pointing in a different direction, audiences are challenged to solve the crime before Poirot reveals the astonishing truth.

This compelling stage production captures the elegance, wit and psychological tension that have made Agatha Christie the world's best-selling novelist. Combining classic detective storytelling with theatrical flair, it offers an immersive experience for seasoned Christie enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Can you solve the case before the final curtain?

"Agatha Christie remains the undisputed Queen of Crime, and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd stands as one of her most daring and influential works," says Pieter Toerien. "Its remarkable twists and unforgettable characters make it a perfect theatrical experience, inviting audiences to become detectives themselves."

With its atmospheric setting, memorable characters and edge-of-your-seat suspense, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is a celebration of classic mystery theatre at its very best.

Whether you're a lifelong admirer of Hercule Poirot or simply enjoy an expertly crafted whodunnit, this production promises an unforgettable evening where nothing is quite as it seems.
