We are proud to announce that Grand-Mère Single Vineyard Semillon 2021 received 5 Stars at the Platter’s Awards.

These Semillon vines date back to 1936. At 87 years old, they show the grace and tenacity exemplified by a family matriarch or grandmother. They have borne witness to generations of winemakers, to changes in the Franschhoek Valley, and to the people over the last 8 decades who have made it the region that it is today.

The wine is elegant and refined, with opulent pear, kumquat and citrus peel flavours, sweet exotic spice and a textured mouth-feel. The flavours evolve and persist from the entry onto the palate, with layers of succulent tropical fruit and candied citrus flavours unfolding. The well-defined fruit is balanced by a mouth-watering acidity and a lingering minerality on the finish.

I get my inspiration & motivation to work with one of the most amazing vineyards you can find in South Africa, especially when it comes to Old Vines that are able to showcase Semillon. Old Semillon vines in South Africa are incredibly rare. Also, another inspiration is to be able to take something that is raw and turn it into wine, that can be enjoyed by people all around the country and the world.
