A feast for the senses …
This is the promise of our Quoin Rock restaurant dining experience at our restaurant, Gate, pronounced “gah-tey”.
The Norwegian origin of the word translates as ‘the entrance of a labyrinth’ or a ‘riddle’ symbolising a gateway to an extraordinary dining experience and a delightful puzzle to be decoded. Seating only 40 people, Gate provides an intimate and inspiring fine dining experience as one of the best restaurants in Stellenbosch.
* Restaurant Policy:
Deposit: To avoid disappointment, we secure your booking with a per head deposit of R300. Please note this is a non-refundable nor transferable amount.
Cancellation: If any of your reservation plans change, kindly inform us 48 hours in advance. In this instance, the full deposit with be refunded. We allow a 30 minute grace period per the time of booking. If there has been no notice the reservation becomes null and void.
Photography Policy: If guests would like to bring a photographer to their Gate experience, they will need to notify the restaurant at least 24 hours in advance. A photography fee of R2500 will also be charged. Pictures can only be taken outside of the premises. No pictures are permitted inside the restaurant to consider other guests and their experience.
Child Policy: As a fine-dining restaurant, Gate does not allow children within the establishment. As an alternative, we offer our bespoke Picnic Experience.

Gate Restaurant head chef Paul Prinsloo focuses on a modernist approach to food. We are inspired by everything around us and being different with our food and presentation. The focus is not placed on a specific cuisine, but more on how to bring every ingredient to life and use it to its full potential.
