Inspired by the warmth and flavours of Portugal, hosts Victor and Jackie have created one of the most beloved Portuguese restaurants in Johannesburg.

A Churrasqueira has been favourably reviewed by several magazines and newspapers during its notable history. It has been dubbed the Financial Mail’s “Prawn Star” and earned a place in the Eat Out Best 100 Restaurants in South Africa.

With glowing recommendations from LeGastroGnome, it has been featured in British Airways’ Horizon Magazine as an in-flight showcase of South Africa’s most delicious cuisine, and even attracted the culinary curiosity of celebrated British chef Ainsley Harriott for the BBC. Popular radio personality Whackhead Simpson has also mentioned the restaurant on several occasions on his breakfast shows.

On 1 May 2014, A Churrasqueira closed its Rosettenville doors and relocated to its new home in Brackenhurst, Alberton. The new venue is even more family-friendly, boasting a dedicated kiddies’ menu and two brand-new, ultra-modern, and super-fun play gyms for young patrons — giving them endless hours of enjoyment while moms and dads relax and savour the perfect Portuguese experience.

Loosely translated as “a variety of food on the grill,” A Churrasqueira offers everything from the classic Portuguese peri-peri chicken to prawn curry, prawn and pork rashers, and traditional favourites such as rabbit stew, tripe, and pork-and-clam stew.
