Firehorse rises at Vergelegen: A New Temporary Dining Experience

15 April 2026

  • Firehorse Restaurant at Vergelegen

Following the recent fire in the Stables kitchen, Vergelegen is turning challenge into opportunity with the opening of Firehorse, a new temporary restaurant launching on Friday, 17 April. Thoughtfully created to ensure guests can continue enjoying the estate’s much-loved food offering, Firehorse will be serving breakfast and lunch while the original Stables building undergoes renovation.

Set in a light-filled glass marquee under the oak trees, right alongside the Stables restaurant, Firehorse promises a familiar sense of place with an exciting new energy. The menu will feature Stables favourite dishes that regulars know and love, complemented by new bistro-style additions designed for relaxed, everyday enjoyment.

Surrounded by Vergelegen’s historic beauty and natural calm, Firehorse offers a warm, welcoming space to gather, dine, and linger – whether you’re stopping in for a morning coffee and breakfast or a leisurely lunch on the farm.

Firehorse is a celebration of resilience, continuity, and good food, and will remain in operation until the Stables kitchen is fully restored. Guests can look forward to the same Vergelegen hospitality, just with a fresh setting and a spark of something new.

To book: Visit the Firehorse page on Vergelegen's website, call +27 21 847 2111 or email customerservices@vergelegen.co.za.
