HAT-TRICK AT THE 2009 V&A WATERFRONT RESTAURANT AWARDS
The trendy, highly acclaimed Belthazar - voted ‘Best Steakhouse in South Africa’ – shone at last week’s V&A Waterfront Awards ceremony where the cutting-edge, chic establishment was voted: Restaurant of the Year and Best Overall Service, and the Best Server award went to sommelier Chris McDaniel for his efficiency, amicability and knowledge.
A carnivore’s ultimate indulgence, Belthazar specialises in superb aged grain-fed Karan Beef as well as the finest seafood. Currently offering an inimitable selection of 600 highly desirable wines, including a remarkable 250 wines by the glass, served only in Riedel crystal glasses, Belthazar is arguably the largest ‘wine by the glass bar’ in the world.
And this winter, the swanky establishment has a decadently indulgent offer: tuck into their succulent, flame-grilled, award-winning Rib-eye steak – accompanied by Belthazar’s secret signature sauce, a fresh seasonal salad and bottomless fries - for only R99. Eat Out editor and Chief Judge (along with her team of highly esteemed food critics), Abigail Donnelly, sought to critique each establishment on their ‘restaurant culture’ from ‘how reservations are handled, to greetings on arrival, to ambience and, of course, culinary experience’.
